Is Garcia an Upgrade over Couch?

Scouring the information super-highway I came across a post in Ben Maller’s blog. It posed the question - "Is Jeff Garcia a clear upgrade over Tim Couch as the Brown's starting quarterback?"

While Ben's initial answer was "Absolutely", he went on to say that Garcia's image as a winning quarterback was overrated. "Among active quarterbacks with 10 or more starts, Garcia has a .493 winning percentage - ranking him 29th of 54.

Now from a Cleveland Brown's point of view - Couch isn't even the #2 QB in Green Bay now! It's "Hall of Famer" Craig Nall (who?). It's clear that Garcia will give the Brown’s a better chance to win.

But wait, this is StatLeader.com! We don't care who wins or loses - we want to know about FANTASY VALUE!

Ben is talking about the NFL - at StatLeader.com we talk FANTASY POINTS. There are already too many fantasy football sites dwelling on everything BUT fantasy value.

Fantasy Football Spin: Garcia came into the Niner's and only outperformed Joe Montana and Steve Young - statistically! Prior to last season’s off-year, (don’t forget the injury) Garcia averaged 28 touchdown passes plus 4 more via the run! He also averaged over 3,700 yards passing!

Now the Brown’s may not even win their Division this year, but Garcia’s numbers (which should be all that matters to Fantasy Football owners) will make him worthy! He probably won’t be drafted in your league as a number 1 QB - but whoever gets him as their number 2 will be starting him by Week 9 (especially if he is on the bench behind Michael Vick.)
