McCown's judgment gets scrambled under pressure
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports: Arizona Cardinal's quarterback Josh McCown's mobility is one of his greatest assets, and it will become a more potent weapon when McCown harnesses it, coach Dennis Green said.
Like any young quarterback who can run, McCown needs to exercise discretion, Green said.
"I think guys who can scramble, their first instinct is to scramble," Green said. "Guys who can't scramble, their first instinct is to throw the ball away."
There are times, Green said, when McCown needs to throw the ball away instead of scramble. That's what happened last week against Atlanta when McCown rolled out and was hit from behind and fumbled. He also tried to scramble on a screen pass.
"We know that when you get a second-, third-year quarterback, he's going to have to learn a lot of things under fire," Green said, "but that still doesn't mean you don't win."
Fantasy Football Analysis: Even as McCown matures this season, we do not expect him to become a top-20 fantasy football QB in 2004.
