Fantasy Football: Rattay Won't Go Away Without a Fight
A 49ers win over the Oakland Raiders 21-13 is great news for the San Francisco side of the Bay Area and Niner fans everywhere. What we learned most from the evening however, is that Tim Rattay isn't going to make new million-dollar-baby Alex Smith's job any easier.
Fantasy football fanatics watched as Smith and the starting 49ers offense go 3 and out the first four opportunities of the night. Smith finally led a drive to end the second quarter, but came away without points.
Veteran Tim Rattay (6 for 8, 103 yards, 2 TD's) started the third quarter and led the 49ers' first score on back-to-back 30+ yard passes to Brandon Lloyd (5 catches for 87 yards), the scoring pass being a 36 yarder.
The defense followed with an interception of a Tuiasosopo pass for a touchdown.
Following a Raider turnover on the ensuing kick-off, Rattay threw two passes, the second one a 13 yard score to Arnaz Battle.
Fantasy Football Impact: Rattay can play QB in the NFL - and the veteran is going to make Alex Smith earn his starting spot. It may not come as easy as everyone had expected it to. Smith didn't move the offense, and his outing was very underwhelming. Rattay showed the poise of a QB who has been in the system - and that is to be expected.
Of all of the problems the 49ers have, this is their best.
