Brett Favre's New Reason To Retire...

The AP reports that the Green Bay Packers and Mike McCarthy were nearing a deal to make him their next head coach Wednesday night, a person involved in the negotiations told The Associated Press.

The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal was not yet complete, expected the team to finalize an agreement with the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator on Thursday.

McCarthy was the Packers' quarterbacks coach in 1999, working with Brett Favre when the team went 8-8 under Ray Rhodes.

McCarthy, 42, was the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator from 2000-04 before going to San Francisco. The 49ers finished 4-12 this pasts season.

Fantasy Football Impact: Brett might be familiar with McCarthy - but we have seen just how imaginative he is offensively with the 49ers. If that isn't another reason for Brett to retire - I don't know what is!

You sound like you are wishing he would retire. Favre owes it to himself to come back and prove that he is the quarterback he wants to retire as. There are also some records out there he should be shooting for. He is only 36 years old and has a lot of football left. He just needs a coach who makes him measure up. Mike Sherman was not that guy!!!!

This is another reason for Favre to return. McCarthy's short stay with the 49er's shouldnt really count. They had no offense to work with in the first place. Rookie qb, who maybe played 7 games, no back up that was reliable...barlow is no more than a backup rb, he did his best when he was backing up G. Hearst. I believe this is a great opportunity for the packers to get back to be offensive minded.

I don't want Brett to go out on a sour note - but there is no chance for the "happy ending" we-who-like-Favre would like to see.

The best we can hope for (should he return next season) is a year of solid stats (e.g. 2x TD to INT ratio) and a winning record.

I agree with u on that one mister2...i believe it was just one of those years u chalk up to very bad luck and trying to do to much on his own...2-1 td ratio would be great and i know he still has it in him...
