Fantasy Football 2006 - Draft Tip #12
OK, I guess I've made you wait long enough for Part 12. Besides, the web guys need a few more days to finish up the spiffy new StatLeader site.
So now, in my best "Lost in Space" voice:
"Last time as you recall," we left our intrepid band of space travelers searching for draft data, little knowing that lurking just beyond the preseason was a destructive force of rookie running backs.
Will: "Dad, how will this draft data help us?"
Prof. Robinson: "Well son, as you know the Jupiter 2's hyperdrive is powered by a mixture of Deutronium and fantasy football points. However, for the engines to work properly we have to get as many points as possible."
Will: "So if we pick the right players we'll have enough fuel to get to Alpha Centauri."
Dr. Smith: "No, No, back to Earth."
Major West: "Shut up Smith."
Robot: "Danger, Danger Will Robinson. My sensors detect an alien presence."
Prof. Robinson: "What kind of presence?"
Robot: "Insufficient data,"
Prof. Robinson (Looking thoughtful): "If that means what I think it means..."
Maureen: "John?"
Prof. Robinson: "A lack of sufficient data can only mean rookie players." (Turning to the Robot) "Robot, can you provide positional data on these aliens?"
Robot: "Recent Heisman residual indicates that aliens are most likely of the Running Back variety."
Prof. Robinson (Looks concerned)
Penny: "What is it dad?"
Prof. Robinson: "Well darling, rookie players can come into a league with expectations that are much too high. If we were to draft one of them to early, their point total might not be sufficient to get us to Alpha Centauri and we'll end up hopelessly lost in space again."
Judy: "But what can we do?"
Prof. Robinson: "We've got to get more information on them. Don, you take the parajet thrusters and check the AFC plateau, Maureen and I will take the Chariot and search the NFC Desert."
Will: "Can I come?"
Prof. Robinson: "No son, you stay here with your sisters, Dr. Smith, and the Robot.....and no unauthorized trips, understand?"
Will: "Yes Sir."
Sometime after Prof. and Mrs. Robinson and Major West have departed we see Dr. Smith alone with the Robot.
Dr. Smith: "With a Reggie Bush or a Joseph Addai in the early rounds..." (Turns to the Robot) "Tell me my metallic friend, can you use your circuits to make the Jupiter 2's computers pick at least one rookie running back in the first three rounds, no matter what the Robinsons choose to do?"
Robot: "Affirmative"
Dr. Smith: "You have my permission to do so."
Robot: "Affirmative, however it is necessary to point out that the resulting fantasy points will not be sufficient to provide the Jupiter 2 the capability to reach Alpha Centauri."
Dr. Smith (Smiling): "Leaving our beleaguered band of space pioneers nowhere to go...but back to Earth."
Will Dr. Smith's nefarious plan work? Will the Robinson's draft a rookie running back in the first three rounds? Can one one of them provide the needed points?
