2007 Player Projections: Dominic Rhodes

2007 Player Projections: Dominic Rhodes

Oakland Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes was suspended Tuesday for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

The league does not disclose reasons for substance abuse suspensions, but Rhodes pleaded guilty in the offseason to reckless driving charges in Indiana after prosecutors agreed to drop drunken driving charges against him.

Rhodes, who spent his six years in Indianapolis, signed a two-year contract in the offseason with the Raiders that could be worth up to $7.5 million. He is expected to split time with last year's starter LaMont Jordan as the Raiders try to improve a running game that averaged 3.9 yards per carry in 2006.

Rhodes was a decent pick at running back - even with splitting time with LaMont Jordan. That is not the case anly longer! Who can waste a pick on a RB that won't contribute for the first four games at least! We don't recommend him at all in the draft at this point. He may be worth picking up as a bye-week starter after the first 1/3 of the season - especially if Jordan gets hobbled.

How could you not draft him at all? Some leagues draft deep and with a 12 team league, I assure you that Rhodes in the 15th round looks a heck of a lot better than a lot of picks there.

In a league with 12 teams it can be a crap-shoot just to get a full roster of players with a participation factor high enough to be worthy of a start!

Drafting a player that is projected to miss the first four weeks of the season - and then will split time once he makes it onto the field - just doesn't make a lot of sense to me!

Especially in Rhodes' case - where he will likely be more of a nuisance to people who hold LaMont Jordan than anything else.
