Lemon To Make First NFL Start

It's a week of breakthroughs for quarterback Cleo Lemon, who threw his first career touchdown pass and now looks forward to his first NFL start.

The third-year pro will replace Joey Harrington in the Miami Dolphins' lineup Sunday against Indianapolis, coach Nick Saban said Wednesday.

"It's important for us to see where this guy is," Saban said. "I think he deserves the opportunity."

Lemon came off the bench in the past two games. He replaced Harrington at halftime of Monday's loss to the New York Jets, and the Dolphins' streak of seven quarters without a point ended when Lemon threw for a score in the fourth period.

Addai cleared to play Sunday

Indianapolis Colts rookie runner Joseph Addai practiced Friday and has been cleared to play Sunday against the Texans in his hometown of Houston.

Addai had sat out two days of workouts this week to rest a sprained right ankle that he hurt in the third quarter of Monday night's 34-16 win over Cincinnati.

Initial reports had Addai sidelined indefinitely with a high ankle sprain, but Colts coach Tony Dungy was adamant the injury wasn't serious and that Addai might be ready to play at Houston.

Jags' Taylor ruled out against Pats

Jaguars running back Fred Taylor will miss Sunday's game against New England because of a lingering hamstring injury.

Taylor, who hurt his right hamstring against Indianapolis on Dec. 10, aggravated the injury on his second carry last week at Tennessee and sat out the rest of the game. Taylor missed three days of practice this week, and coach Jack Del Rio downgraded him from questionable to out Friday.

Derek Anderson Gets Another Start

Derek Anderson, drafted and released by the Ravens last year, will make his second career start on Sunday - against his former team.

For the second straight week Anderson is filling in for Charlie Frye, who bruised his right wrist two weeks ago against Kansas City and hasn't been able to throw a ball since.

Delhomme Misses Another Practice

Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme missed practice again Thursday, increasing the chances Chris Weinke will start this week's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Delhomme missed his first game since 2003 on Sunday when damaged ligaments in his right thumb forced him to sit out the Panthers' loss to the New York Giants.

Weinke got his first start since the 2002 season and threw for a franchise-record 423 yards. But he was also intercepted three times.

Weinke said he's approaching the game against the Steelers as if he'll start.

"I approach it like that every week," he said. "We'll see how Jake feels."

Cowboys Status

Taylor still doubtful for Vikings

Minnesota Vikings running back Chester Taylor's bruised ribs left him doubtful on the injury report Friday and unlikely to play against Detroit.

Taylor went through part of practice, but coach Brad Childress said he would need "a sprint to get to this game."

Ciatrick Fason would probably take over as the featured back if Taylor is out, with Mewelde Moore increasing his share of the load and Artose Pinner possibly getting some carries.
